The
Toy Poodle is the original hypo-allergenic
breed. Poodles have been the most popular house dog for over 100 years. They
are extremely intelligent, non-shedding and odorless. Poodles are easy to
train, very clean inside the house and easy to take care of. The Toy Poodle
is smallest of the Poodle group. They range in size up to 10 inches at the
shoulder with an average weight of 5 to 8 pounds. Small enough to be
perfectly at home in a house, apartment or condo. Having worked with a
variety of small breeds, I find poodles are a really fast learners. Many
people feel Poodles are the smartest of all the small breeds.
My Toy Poodles
think they are a big dog in a small dog suit, their antics are so
entertaining. They can be taught obedience, tricks, and even work as service
dogs. Toy poodles make an excellent choice for people want a dog they can
paper train and not have to walk. Toys are small enough to carry with you
when you go out.
Poodles come in a variety of lovely colors. Many of mine are red, apricot to cream and ice white. I also occasionally have “parti”, which means 2 colors. Black and white is most popular. Small poodles are very active as puppies, but don’t need a lot of room to play around. They are also a very people loving dog and quickly bond to their new owners. They will play endlessly with the kids, will fetch the ball over and over. Toy Poodles are a favorite of people who live in apartments, condos and high-rises. You can paper train them on the terrace, in the bathroom or utility room. Paper training relieves the owner from the guilt of rushing home to walk the dog or going out at night or in the pouring rain.
Miniature Poodles are
up to 15 inches at the shoulder and weigh 10 to 16 pounds. Excellent size
for active kids to play with. Poodles may give the impression of being
delicate but in reality they are solid, sturdy, rough and tumble little
dogs. Poodles are one of the longest living dog breeds with a life
expectancy of 15 or 16 years and often living much longer. Poodles also lend
their attributes to an amazing variety of Poodle-Mixes. Poodles were the
first dog used to create all the new “Designer Breeds.”
